Where the Vision Began : Paris, Colour and Craft
Interior inspiration from European architecture
The Parisian streetscape sparked his creativity.
I wanted to use the traditional trompe-l'œil technique with my own spin, taking my cinema room to the Moulin Rouge. — Daniel Bland
Inspired by historic plasterwork and ornate facades, Daniel chose a deep, dramatic red as his canvas, a bold departure from modern cinema room neutrals, and paired it with metallic accents to echo the grandeur of classic performance spaces.

Bringing the Vision to Life with Super GILD Metallic Paints
How to blend Super GILD metallic paints
To create the illusion of depth and sculptural detail, Daniel layered metallic paints:
- Super GILD Gold as the base for luminosity
- Burnt Copper for rich warmth
- Platinum for highlights and contrast
His technique involved careful brushwork, blending and precision masking to ensure crisp detail and dynamic visual texture.
To achieve the 3D look, I mixed a highlight and shadow with Platinum and Burnt Copper into the Gold. The base coat I painted with just Gold, then the second coat dipping the left and right sides of the brush into the highlight and shadow shades, painting in one direction at the same time to blend. — Daniel Bland
His approach showcases how metallic paints can be used architecturally, not just cosmetically.
Painting Precision, Tools and Techniques
How to get crisp metallic lines with painter's tape
Daniel's detail work highlights his craft:
- Graphite template outlines helped guide complex shapes against a strong background colour.
- Painter's tape sealed with the base colour ensured ultra‑crisp metallic edges.
Daniel's Top tip
I did a pencil outline first, but it was hard to see against the red. So, I made paper templates, scribbled graphite on the back, and traced the design onto the wall. — Daniel Bland
While commonly used by painters, this simple technique also demonstrates the thoughtful detailing behind the project, reinforcing the craftsmanship and versatility of Super GILD metallics.
I love the crisp line of freehand painting vs stencils. — Daniel Bland
His expert tip for achieving perfectly crisp lines?
For this project, I used tape for all the straight lines. Top tip—seal the tape by painting over the edges with the wall colour (in my case, red), so any bleed marks are invisible, and you get the perfect crisp, shiny lines. — Daniel Bland
Cinematic Drama Meets Gilded Grandeur
Interior paint transformation for a home cinema
The finished room is immersive, dramatic, and rich in depth and contrast. Light plays off gilded surfaces, creating movement and a sense of space that belies the walls' flat planes.
This project proves that metallic paint isn't just decorative, it can be architectural.
The result? A breathtakingly immersive space, reminiscent of Parisian grandeur and theatrical elegance. The interplay of light, shadow, and metallic sheen adds movement and depth, making the room feel both expansive and dramatic—the perfect setting for a luxurious home cinema experience.
I wanted to give my red cinema room a touch of Moulin Rouge! — Daniel Bland
