I just love painting and creating… The feel of a paintbrush, the satisfaction of making something truly unique and sharing the knowledge in teaching workshops brings me so much joy.
That joy is at the heart of her style: sleek, modern, and often dramatic.
While she’s never one to shy away from colour, Jade admits she has a soft spot for a particular palette.
I definitely have a strong pull to using black and gold, I’m slowly venturing into more texture… how I can incorporate special effects, like patterns, to add depth and character to a piece.
The Faux Malachite Masterpiece
One of her latest projects shows exactly what she means. A once-simple bedside table has been reborn as a statement piece with a faux malachite effect. The process started with a base coat of Jubilee in Jet Black — the boldest of neutrals, and one of Jade’s go-to shades.
Prepping is key! Cleaning, sanding and filling any holes to create the smoothest finish. I love a sleek finish so to me this step is so important.
To achieve that mesmerising malachite effect, she turned to Super GILD, blending Gold, Platinum and Burnt Copper with a scumble glaze to give herself enough working time to create delicate striations. The only challenge? Lining up the pattern across drawers
so it looked like one seamless cut of stone. The result is as luxurious as it sounds — a piece that marries the drama of black with the richness of metallics.
Carrying On a Legacy
Jade's love of gold isn't just aesthetic — It's personal.
I come from a family of gilders, so I suppose you could say gold is in my blood. I will always remember when I was little my dad coming home from work with bits of gold leaf in his beard. I love that I can carry on that legacy in my own way, and Guild Lane's Super Gilds help me create that stunning gold effect with such ease.
Like many artists and upcyclers, Jade has a deep affinity for our Super GILD Gold, and after learning of her family legacy, it’s no surprise.
The gold was my first love in their paint line because it has the most gorgeous lustre and the coverage is incredible. I will always be a cheerleader for that paint!
Teaching With Colour
Beyond creating her own pieces, Jade thrives on helping others unlock their creativity. Her workshops have become a key part of her journey, offering everything from bauble painting to furniture upcycling.
In my workshops, I use the Jubilee paint range because of it’s versatility going on almost any surface from ceramic baubles to candles and wood. It's so beginner-friendly because of how beautifully flat it dries, which is very forgiving. I also love the story behind the colours, knowing they take their inspiration from British Heritage adds another layer of meaning to the whole creative process.
This festive season, she’ll be bringing her magic to the Ideal Home Show at Olympia, London (26th–30th November). On Thursday 27th, you’ll find her running two workshops and even giving a stage talk on how to create upcycled gifts with ease — all with Guild Lane paints.
If you can’t make it to the show, don’t worry. Jade also runs plenty of workshops throughout the year at her studio, with private sessions bookable directly through her website.
