Designing Bold Interiors with Pattern, Paint & Purpose

Based in Manchester, Avalana Design and Lucia-Kreate are two independent creatives whose paths crossed through a mutual client in 2022. What began as a one-off collaboration on a quirky container project quickly evolved into a seamless partnership. Avalana brings cinematic, nature-inspired design rooted in hand-painted detail, while Lucia executes each concept with precision and craftsmanship. Known for their maximalist flair, saturated palettes and love of pattern, Avalana Design and Lucia-Kreate bring bold storytelling to every space they touch.

Their work at Solberge Hall is a standout example of their shared aesthetic, cinematic, richly layered, and unapologetically bold.

Solberge Hall Maximalist Revival: Bold Glamour in a Georgian Manor

Solberge Hall is an elegant Georgian manor built in 1824 and recently reimagined as a luxury wedding venue. Avalana was brought on to redesign the Drawing Room, the first impression space for prospective couples and a tranquil retreat for guests.

"The room had to feel elevated and immersive," she explains. "It needed to serve as both a showcase of wedding styling and a calm space next to the main bar."

To bring the vision to life, Avalana used her own metallic wallpaper and focused on highlighting the architectural details throughout: a tiered fireplace, skirting boards, cornices, picture rails and window reveals. Lucia then took over the detailing, using Guild Lane’s Super GILD Gold to enhance and unify the space with liquid gold warmth that catches the light and statement-making metallic glamour.

Painting with Purpose: Why They Chose Super GILD Gold

"Time was tight," Lucia shares. "We only had two weeks to transform the entire room."

To streamline the process, the pair wallpapered over the existing walls and stripped back years of layered paint on the woodwork. For the metallic accents, Lucia selected Super GILD Gold:

Shared Values, Distinct Strengths

Avalana’s designs begin with watercolour sketches, often inspired by nature, travel and folklore. Her goal is to create rooms that feel immersive, joyful and transportive. Lucia’s mindset is more pragmatic, born from a love of transformation, value, and working with what already exists.

"We both value beauty, craft, and client trust," says Lucia. "We love working with clients who want to be pushed creatively and aren’t afraid of bold ideas."

Advice for Future Designers

Both women believe strongly in following your instincts and staying true to your aesthetic.

"Don’t limit yourself to what you think people want," says Avalana. "Design what you love, your clients will respond to that."

Lucia adds, "I thrive on commercial projects because they demand solutions. That’s where creativity really comes to life."
