Paint
Paint for the things you make and restore: furniture, metal, glass, plastic and fabric. Each surface takes paint differently, so the place to start is what you are painting. Jubilee gives solid colour and Bleo soaks in like a dye. GILD Originals and Super GILD give a metallic finish, and Chrome a mirror.
What are you painting?
Each surface has its own guide: which paint to use, how to prepare, and the questions people ask.
Wood
Bare or sealed? It decides which paint, and whether to sand.

Metal
Clean back the rust and grease first, then choose your finish.
Paint for metal
Glass
Nothing soaks in, so it all comes down to a clean surface.
Paint for glass
Plastic
The shinier the plastic, the more keying it needs.

Fabric
Bleo is made for it: it stays soft and takes gentle washing.

Questions about our paints
Start with the surface and the finish you want. Jubilee for solid colour, Bleo for colour that soaks into fabric and raw wood, GILD Originals and Super GILD for a metallic finish, and Chrome for a mirror.
The table above shows which works on what, and each surface has its own guide.
Jubilee, Super GILD and Bleo, once cured. GILD Originals is for interiors only, and Chrome is designed mainly for interior pieces.
GILD Originals is our classic metallic enamel, ideal for interior decorative work on sealed, primed or non-porous surfaces. Apply in thin, buildable coats for a smooth, luminous finish. Super GILD offers greater versatility across surfaces, including bare wood, fabric and paper, with excellent one-coat coverage and enhanced UV protection. For exterior projects, choose Super GILD.
All of them except Chrome, which is our only oil-based enamel. Clean Chrome brushes with white spirit, never water.
Yes. Our water-based paints can be mixed with GILD Originals and Jubilee to make your own shades. Chrome cannot be mixed. Always test a blend before your full project.
Usually not, on a clean, sound surface. Very glossy surfaces, PVC, glazed tiles, and oil-based paints or varnishes may need one. Each surface guide says when.
Yes. Jubilee, GILD Originals, Super GILD and our top coats can all be used on leather. Clean it thoroughly first and remove any grease, wax or polish with white spirit and fine steel wool.
Bleo suits raw, porous leather only. Do not use it on leather with a shiny or sealed finish.
No. Our paints and finishes should not be used on surfaces that come into direct contact with food or drink. On glasses, plates or other tableware, keep the paint to decorative areas, away from food, drink and drinking edges.
We don’t recommend it. Guild Lane paints are not heat rated, so they are not designed for radiators or other surfaces that get hot.
