Jubilee FAQs

Jubilee paint is ready to use out of the container. Stirring (not shaking) the paint is necessary for the pigment to be evenly distributed before use. For best results, surfaces should be cleaned well and free of any dust, dirt, grease or oils before applying, and we always recommend doing a test patch before completing an entire project.

Yes, Jubilee is ready to use straight from the container. Stir (don't shake) before painting to evenly distribute pigment.

Remove dirt and grease using a suitable degreaser. Dry thoroughly before painting. The aim is to paint a clean, smooth, matt surface.

Waxed surfaces will need white spirits and steel wool to remove wax residue. Clean well after this step.

For high sheen, glossy surfaces, lightly sand to create a 'tooth'. Use 120–180 grit sandpaper to dull any glossy surfaces. This improves adhesion, ensuring you get good, durable results.

No primer needed in most cases to Jubilee is a self-priming 3-in-1 formula. On most surfaces, no separate primer is required. For difficult materials like melamine or laminate, light sanding or adhesion priming may be needed.

For resinous wood species, or knots, apply a shellac-based stain-blocking primer.

Jubilee does not require a primer on most surfaces. However, if applying Jubilee directly to very glossy substrates such as glazed tiles, PVC, ceramics or on top of an oil-based product such as solvent-based paints or varnishes, a primer may be necessary for better adherence and longevity. Additionally, you should never apply to wet or dusty surfaces.

In most cases, no priming is required. Jubilee has excellent adhesion on properly prepped surfaces. Priming is only required in two situations:

• Adhesion to Use an adhesion primer on very glossy, shiny, non-porous, or hard-to-sand surfaces (e.g., laminate/melamine, glazed tile) to improve grip and durability.
• Stain blocking to Use a stain-blocking primer on resinous woods, wood knots, or surfaces prone to tannin/stain bleed. We recommend a shellac-based stain blocker.

Jubilee is formulated with our CC-22 resin technology, developed to promote strong adhesion across a wide range of surfaces. As with all quality paints, careful preparation supports long-term durability.

Clean thoroughly to remove dirt, grease, polish and residue. Waxed surfaces must be stripped back fully before painting, as barrier products prevent proper adhesion. Allow surfaces to dry completely before application.

Repair any damage and sand-filled areas, and smooth. Remove sanding dust before painting.

While CC-22 supports excellent adhesion, high-gloss substrates or existing oil-based finishes may still require sanding or priming to ensure a stable base.

A primer is recommended in the following situations:

For shiny, glossy or difficult-to-sand or non-porous surfaces where additional adhesion support is required. In these cases, use a suitable adhesion primer.

For resinous timber, visible knots or heavily stained surfaces where bleed-through may occur. In these situations, a stain-blocking primer is required. We recommend a shellac-based stain blocker for optimal performance.

Selecting the correct primer ensures long-term durability and colour integrity.

Jubilee is a water-based, flexible formula suitable for many surfaces, including wood, metal, glass, plastic, plaster, stone, pottery, canvas, paper and card. It can also be used on fabric (see Fabric FAQ below).

Apply Jubilee in thin, even coats using a high-quality brush or suitable roller. Work with the grain of the wood where applicable and avoid overworking the paint as it begins to dry, allowing it to level naturally for the smoothest finish.

Allow each coat to become touch-dry before applying the next. Highly absorbent surfaces may require an additional coat to achieve full colour depth.

Yes. Jubilee can be applied using a suitable paint sprayer.

For best results, apply Jubilee in temperatures between 10°C and 25°C.

Extremely cold, hot or humid conditions may affect drying time and finish quality.

Jubilee is not a flat, chalky matt. It has a soft, subtle sheen created by its built-in sealing system. The finish sits between traditional matt and satin, offering a gentle light reflection without appearing glossy.

Every batch of Jubilee is produced with careful attention to colour accuracy and formulation integrity.

As with all paints, slight variations can occur between batches due to the natural behaviour of pigments and raw materials.

For larger projects, we recommend intermixing multiple tins before application to ensure a seamless result across the entire surface.

Please note that the colour in the tin, and when wet on the surface, will not represent the final dried finish. Colour should only be assessed once fully dry on the intended surface.

Jubilee can be used decoratively on fabric when applied in thin, controlled layers.

For projects requiring a dedicated textile paint with greater flexibility and wash durability after heat setting, we recommend BLEO, our fabric and porous surface paint.

Ensure the fabric is clean and free from dirt, oils or fabric softeners before painting. Lightly dampening the surface with clean water, a spray bottle can help the paint distribute more evenly through the fibres.

Apply thin coats using long, even strokes, building colour gradually rather than saturating the fabric in one pass. Allow each layer to dry fully before applying the next. Light sanding between coats can help even absorption.

If a softer, more flexible finish is desired, a small amount of clean water or suitable acrylic medium may be added sparingly. Avoid over-thinning, as this can affect durability.

For best results, test on a small, inconspicuous area first to assess absorption and finish.

No, Jubilee is formulated with a built-in sealer, so it is not necessary to wax or seal the paint after drying.

Jubilee is an all-in-one formula. It has a built-in top coat: no wax or sealer is needed, even on outdoor projects. For high-use areas, adding a topcoat is optional.

Jubilee is touch-dry in approximately 30 minutes under normal conditions.

It is ready for recoating after 2 hours, allowing you to build colour with confidence and control.

Full cure is achieved in 21 days. During this time, the finish continues to harden and strengthen. Painted furniture can be used gently while curing, with care taken to avoid heavy abrasion or prolonged moisture until the surface has reached full durability.

Jubilee is touch-dry in approximately 30 minutes and ready for recoating after 2 hours.

While the surface may feel dry quickly, the paint film continues to harden over time as it cures. Full cure is achieved in 21 days, when the finish reaches maximum durability.

Your painted project can be used as normal during this period. Simply treat it with gentle care and avoid heavy abrasion until curing is complete.

Yes, Jubilee can be used as shed paint and fence paint, as well as on garden furniture and other outdoor surfaces. Its durable, weather-resistant formula provides long-lasting colour and protection without the need for a separate primer or topcoat.

Coverage will vary depending on surface texture, absorbency and method of application. For a refined and durable finish, two thin coats are recommended. If painting a larger surface or multiple pieces, we suggest purchasing sufficient paint in one order to ensure colour consistency throughout your project.

Jubilee is water-based and can be cleaned from brushes, rollers and tools using warm water and mild soap.

Clean tools promptly after use to prevent paint from drying in the bristles.
